About Us
To the aspiring women artists:
The following is a brief message about Muslim Women In the Arts (MWIA)
and what it stands for. It is an invitation to women artists who are interested
to join us , share their artistic creations and support others in their
different ways of presenting Islamic Art:
MWIA mission was initiated as a volunteer support group for the Muslim women
of talent in any form of artistic creation. MWIA is based upon the premise that
the work created by the artists is a display of the freedom of creativity
bestowed on all women who seek to present their cultural heritage in the
manifestation of a higher self.
MWIA guiding principles emphasize that as much as we appreciate our diverse
background, Islam serves as our common bond for sharing, creating and supporting
artistic talent of our members. We further believe in our art as medium for
sharing our faith-inspired visions with humanity.
MWIA showcases its members artistic creations to educate the public at
large about the richness of womens experiences throughout the world of Islam.
MWIA also seeks to mentor and guide women of all ages, with a focus on young
adolescent and adult women, in the creation and appreciation of art to present a
part of their culture of which they are most proud.
All activities of MWIA (in arts and humanities) are offered free.
MWIA has exhibited and presented artwork annually over the past 7 years at
the Montgomery County Executive Building in Rockville, Maryland. These exhibits
were open to the public as part of the Office of The Montgomery County Community
Outreach programs. In April 2007, MWIA will host its 8th annual exhibition
at the Montgomery County Executive Building.
